Seniors are often the target of scams and unfortunately, scam artists are using the pandemic to take advantage of older Americans.

Here are some things to look out for and to avoid:

  • Robocalls offering you respiratory masks that you will never receive.
  • Social media posts seeking donations for non-existent charities, or claiming to give you stimulus funds if you enter banking information.
  • Fake testing kits, cures, “immunity” pills, and offers for protective equipment

So follow a couple basic rules to help protect yourself.  Watch out for fake government approaches.  The government will never ask for your credit card or for you to pay by gift card.  Go directly to the trusted website of the charity that you would like to donate to.  Review your medicare claim notices for any services billed to your medicare number that you do not recognize.
